West Valley Soccer has a close association with Coerver Coaching Idaho, and we implement a strong focus on the Coerver Method in our academy programs. The ability to perform moves at speed under pressure is a skill that takes many years to develop. The ability to use these skills successfully in 1v1 situations during the games is the heart of the skill based player who attacks with flair and style.
Our Academy program is specifically designed for players ages 5-10. Skills designed curriculum utilizing the Coerver method, mixed with fun games, and post training competition matches. Players may attend Academy training and still play for other recreational teams.
Learn the skills once reserved for the world's top soccer players. Why pay more for far less?
All Academy sessions are held at the West Valley Soccer Complex at 765 E Chinden, Meridian ID
Technical Speed
A major part of our Academy program focuses around the development of our players' technical speed. Our definition of technical speed is the ability to perform a skill, in a game situation, in the fastest and most economical fashion. We begin by focusing on the specific movements that are related to soccer. Then we work on developing the specific muscles that are utilized in these movements. After the players become familiar with the exercises we then integrate the basic skills, along with Coerver movements, into the exercises in order to increase the player's physical and mental reactive speed.
Speed Training
We recognize that speed is a fundamental element that each player must possess in order to succeed in the modern game. Our speed training program is based on very sound methods developed by some of the top exercise physiologists in the nation. Much of the program is focused on movements specific to soccer and the training of the specific muscles involved in those movements. Players are trained in the correct technique of the basic movements and then progressed through a training plan where these exercises are developed, combined, and then integrated with basic and advanced soccer skills.
Strength
We combine the use of specific exercises using bands and rubber tubing, along with equipment such as medicine balls and parachutes to add age appropriate resistance training in the academy program. Once again much of this is integrated with specific soccer movements, and particular skills. Through resistance training we find that player's technique, performance and confidence all increase significantly.
Conditioning
Through the above mentioned fitness programs we find that our players achieve a high level of conditioning and are better able to meet the demands of the game. We also will add an endurance training element during the academy day when necessary.
Winter Program
Our winter training program consists of two parts. One is the indoor futsala program where we isolate skills, do strength and conditioning, and allow the players to play the game. The other is entry into the indoor soccer league where our teams play against other club teams in two winter sessions. This program is up for revision. More information will be available and added soon.
